The Honduran Embassy in Spain and Ambassador Leila Odeh de Scott
have granted the Orden de Morazán award to Carlos Escudero
de Burón, President of the Carlos III Foundation, for
his efforts to obtain humanitarian and financial aid for the
victims of Hurricane Mitch.
As part of a series of initiatives aimed at raising funds for
victims in both Honduras and Nicaragua, Escudero de Burón
organized a Spanish soccer classic between the Real Madrid and
Atletico de Madrid teams at the Santiago Barnabeu Stadium in
Madrid.
At the award ceremony, Ambassador Aníbal Quiñónez
thanked Escudero de Burón in the name of the people
and the government of Honduras for the valuable efforts the
Foundation has made over the last 10 years.
The honoree, clearly moved by the honor, explained that seeing
the victims of the hurricane compelled him to take action,
mobilizing international aid in order to relieve the numerous
human and material losses caused by the tragedy.
The award ceremony was held at the Honduran Embassy in Spain
before an audience of business leaders, members of the diplomatic
corps, and Spanish government officials.
