During the 2003-2004 winter season, Germany’s AIDAaura
cruise ship will be docking bimonthly on Honduran shores.
The 1,500-passenger vessel is part of the Barcos-Club concept
fleet, which also includes the sister ships AIDAcara and AIDAvita.
From November 26 through April 2004 the ship will set anchor
in Honduras 11 times, bring an estimated 10,000 tourists to
visit the country’s main attractions, like the Mayan
ruins at Copan, Tela and Lake Yojoa. Future excursions will
also include visits to the Los Micos lagoon and Cerro Azul
Meambar National Park and the Los Naranjos archaeological
site. All mainland tours will be organized by a local operator.
European tourists are among the world’s most demanding,
and the arrival of AIDAaura to Honduran shores is an excellent
opportunity for Honduras to grow as a tourist destination
for this important market.
