The rhythm and sounds of the Caribbean will be at their maximum intensity at the First International Caribbean Music Festival (CARIBFEST) in Roatan, Bay Islands on August 5 and 6.

  • More than 15 local and foreign musicians will be performing
  • All-inclusive packages, including festival admission, are available

1. How do I get to Roatan?

Roatan is part of an archipelago that makes up the island province known as the Bay Islands in the Honduran Caribbean. The island is easily accessible by air and by sea. A number of local carriers, such as Isleña Regional, Sosa Airlines and Atlantic Airlines, offer regular service from the mainland city of La Ceiba. Ferry service is also available from the port of La Ceiba.

The flight to Honduras from the major gateway cities of the southern United States is just two hours. There are also several direct flights to other cities throughout Central America on TACA Airlines, COPA Airlines and AeroHonduras.

Honduras has got four international airports:

  • Toncontin International Airport in Tegucigalpa, the nation’s capital. International flights are available on American Airlines, Continental Airlines, COPA, AeroHonduras and TACA.
  • Ramon Villeda Morales International Airport in San Pedro Sula, the nation’s industrial capital. International flights are available on American Airlines, Continental Airlines, Iberia, COPA, AeroHonduras and TACA.
  • Goloson Airport in La Ceiba, Atlantida. TACA offers international flights and connections.
  • Juan Manuel Galvez International Airport in Roatan, the Bay Islands, served by the international cariers AeroHonduras, TACAm American and Continental, as well as a charter flight from Milan on Lauda Air.

2. What documents do I need to enter the country?

To enter Honduras you’ll need a current passport whose expiration date is three or more months later than your date of arrival. It must also be stamped by the Honduran Department of Immigration. All visitors entering Honduras must also have a return ticket.

The maximum stay for visitors without a visa is 30 days. For longer visits a special visa is required.

Travelers from certain countries require a visa to enter Honduras. To find out of your country is one of these, check the list of required visas.

Persons leaving Honduras must pay an exit tax of US$33.00.

Regular airport operating hours are 6:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. Airlines may make a prior request for service at other times for a fee of Lps. 600. This fee is to be paid to the control tower, which is managed by Mr. Ramon Elias Cooper.

The services of the CaribFest Welcoming Committee may also be requested by sending prior notice at least 48 hours before the festival. Requests for this service must include the number of persons arriving, time of arrival and their expected length of stay so that the necessary passes may be arranged.

Additional Agreements:

- The 150 taxis affiliated with AMORSA and RICS will be issued a sticker to be placed in the front window in a manner that will make them easily identifiable by tourists. They will also be provided with information about the event so that they may provide assistance to tourists.

- During the Festival associated will only transport tourists, not the general population, in order to avoid charging different fares.

- The approved Festival fares will remain the same both day and night. They may not be increased for any reason.
